Nikolai is located in Interior Alaska on the south fork of the Kuskokwim River, 46 air miles east of McGrath. Falling within the continental climate zone, Nikolai is characterized by extreme temperature differences of extremely cold winters and warm summers. The current population is 91 (2018).
Nikolai (Upper Kuskokwim) is an Athabascan community active in fishing and subsistence food-gathering.
